What you need to know about the personalised employment pass

Personalised Employment Pass or PEP is the type of work visa that skilled foreigners can apply for. Now, you might have heard of Employment Pass and wondered how the two are different. The main difference between the two is EP requires the sponsorship of a company or employer.

This means that as the candidate, you won’t be able to apply for this visa by yourself; you’ll need the company or employment agent to do it for you. This means that the credibility of the company is one of the factors that can affect your application. PEP, on the other hand, does not rely on this aspect. MOM will mainly focus on your skillset and how it can be an addition to the industries in Singapore.

Who can apply for a PEP?

If you are an EP owner, you can apply for this visa provided that your monthly salary is at least S$12,000 and you’re not under any kind of sponsorship program of your company. If you’re a foreign professional, the required monthly salary is S$18,000. It’s important to note that this salary must be valid for the last 6 months before you submit your application.

Are freelancers allowed to apply?

Who can apply for a PEP?

There is a set of criteria that you must meet to qualify for a PEP application. Both EP owners and foreign professionals have a chance to apply. For the former, they need to earn at least 12,000 SGD of monthly salary to qualify. For the latter, on the other hand, it’s 18,000 SGD. Furthermore, your last salary must fall within 6 months before you apply for a PEP

EP holders with monthly salary of at least 12,000 SGD.

Foreign professionals with monthly salary of at least 18,000 SGD.

How the process looks like

Submit your application online or manually. You will need to fill out the application form and attach all the necessary documents. Prepare your fee as well. If you decide to do it manually, look for the nearest SingPost.

Processing your PEP application. Once submitted, it will take around 8 weeks to process your application.

Issuance of your PEP. You will receive a letter stating whether or not your application has been approved. Once you’ve received this, you have 6 months to request the issuance of your PEP. If you won’t be able to do the request, it’s possible to appoint someone else. For a smooth process, prepare the following:

  • Passport
  • Details of your current pass or visa
  • Your address in Singapore
  • Delivery address
  • Contact details, you’d want to include the contact details of an authorised recipient as well

Notification Letter. This will give you further instructions moving forward with your application. In some cases, candidates are required to have their fingerprints registered and photo taken. It’s also possible that you won’t be required to do this. Your notification letter allows you to enter and leave the country. However, it’s only valid for one month.

Verification. After you’ve had your fingerprints and photo registered, your application will be verified.

Delivery and receipt of PEP. Around 4 working days after you’ve been verified, your PEP will be delivered to the address you’ve provided in step 3. In case you weren’t able to receive your pass, it will be delivered the second time. After that, you’ll have to claim it personally within 3 days after the second delivery.
